Q: HI!!! love love love you and your blog (and twitter)! just wondering how did you and molls meet? you guys are like my 'it' celeb couple lol NOT EVEN KIDDING! sorry if you have answered this before!

A:

Thank you, thank you, and thank you :) The story of how Molly and I met is pretty “When Harry Met Sallyish,” except the homosexual version. Basically, Molly and I met and re-met in a few different ways over the course of the past ten years.

1. When Molly was a senior in high school, she came to Boston College one day and shadowed a discussion group for Modern European History I. She says that I came into class late-wearing a pair of yellow, flowered board shorts, red flip flops, wearing sunglasses-while eating a bowl of soup (all true and accurate). And that was the first time I ever came into Molly’s consciousness, because she was like, “who the hell is that freak?”

2. During my junior year of college, I took this feminist film theory course, which involved a lot of Lacanian theory, sensitive EMOs, and films about cutting. In this particular class, I’d always notice this quiet blond girl-sitting there silently-wearing this purple coat. The one thing that stuck out to me about this girl was her hair color (and the fact that she always wore this purple coat). To cut it short (ha!)-her blond hair was awful. It was way too light for her complexion, and I’d sit there shaking my head during class like, “this girl needs to change up her hair color because that ain’t cute.” Other than those (bitchy) thoughts, that girl and I never interacted. That random quiet girl with the bad hair and the purple coat was Molly.

3. During my senior year at Boston College, I worked as a student fundraiser, and I became the supervisor and was in charge of hiring all the other student fundraisers. One day, Molly came in for an interview, and I recognized her from my film class, but she looked totally different. And she actually spoke, so that was a huge plus. While I was interviewing her, I was instantly attracted to her charm and personality, so I hired her right there on the spot. Over the course of that year-we became work buddies. Every shift that Molly worked-I felt extra happy. Randomly, I felt very close to her, but we weren’t like officially best friends or anything.

4. After I graduated from B.C., Molly got an internship working in publicity in L.A. Before I graduated, I told her that if she came out to L.A. (ever), I would pick her up and take her around and show her how fabulous L.A. is. So sure enough-she called me up when she got to L.A., and I picked her up, and I showed her how fab and fun L.A. could be. Over the course of that summer, we had some really wild times together, and it just solidified our status as best friends and soul mates. At the end of the summer, she had to go back to Boston to finish up her senior year, and I was really sad because I had made this new best friend, but Molly promised me she would move back to L.A. after graduation and I took her word for it. She promised that we would pick up right where we left off when she moved back.

And as they say, “the rest is history!”
