Q: Tell us what you think of the first episode of RHONYC!! (Since you asked, and I am feeling interuppty like Ramona and Heather) I personally think that Heather is annoying, Sonja is as tired as her old guests and brioche, LuAnn is just eh (although I'm super into Victoria's work! Go girl go--maybe she can support LuAnn's horrible singing career). , but Aviva is a sweetheart and Carole is a fox!! Those two don't belong on the show (from what I can see so far... but the drama looms I'm sure).
A:
I loved it. You and I share a lot of the same view points. I agree with you 100-Heather is kind of annoying. I don’t think she’s a bad girl, but she seems like kind of a know-it-all, who rapidly jams seemingly pointless anecdotes down your throat, which isn’t cool.
I, myself, can be kind of a Chatty Kathy, so I kind of watched in horror as Heather imparted her “wisdom”, but ultimately-I think she’s harmless. She’s doing her thing with the lady shape wear and having fun, and that’s all good with me!
While I think it was extremely tacky and classless of Ramona to coach Heather at her dinner party about how to politely engage in adult conversation, I wasn’t surprised at all. If Ramona Singer tries to give you any kind of life advice, it’s best to laugh about it (better if actually in her face).
The thought of some Pinot-raged, alcoholic hypocrite with a probably adulterous, arrogant husband giving me social advice? No, girl, no. Yet again, this is not surprising. Furthermore, it wasn’t surprising at all that the Countess tried to resolve her Ramotional issues at a public function, on camera; she’s not stupid.
Showcasing her daughter’s art work (which was actually really good-I completely agree with you on that) was a great way for LuAnn to promote her daughter, promote her parenting skills, and make Ramona look like even more of an asshole for publicly attacking her children.
Honestly, I think attacking young children is gross, and I lost all respect for Ramona when she did that. It’s one thing to comment on someone’s above-age mess of a daughter e.g. Ashlee from RHONJ, who is so laughably clueless, spoiled and lazy-it’s almost wrong not to comment on that; compared to making snide remarks about LuAnn’s kids who are still in high school and still figuring themselves out. Not cool, Ramona.
And I’ll be curious to see how the delicately opportunistic LuAnn will shape the arch of her story this season. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with being an opportunist so long as you’re not hurting anyone, and so long as you’re smart and savvy about it; hence the integral meaning of the word-opportunity. If you can create opportunities for yourself, then by all means-embrace your inner-opportunist! Chic c’est la opportunity!
Along those lines, I found Carole to be kind of an ambitious opportunist as well. She’s the society widow, and I think she’s mildly interesting, specifically because she was connected with the Kennedy clan. I can only imagine the regal company she’s kept. Overall, I liked her.
By far and away, my number one favorite housewife is Aviva. Aviva seems totally smart, cool, basically down to earth; but still fun and self deprecating. I really appreciated her bringing the prosthetic leg to a nail salon, because when on television have you ever seen that happen? Absolutely brilliant. She’s totally won me over, so Viva Aviva!
Speaking of being opportunistic, I talk about all of this and more, including RHONJ, RHOC, and RHONY on my hello giggles U-Stream show- “That Hot Housewives Goss” with my girl, Leslie Grossman. It’ll be airing tomorrow at 7pm PST, so be sure to check out hellogiggles.com and you’ll see a link!
xoxo,
Edward
