This Goes Out to Boys named “J.J.”

Back in high school, there was a boy named “J.J.” He had one of those two-name names, so he just went by his initials (obviously), but the nickname suited him extremely well. J.J. was preppy, affable, semi-brilliant, athletic, confident, and a total dime-piece; I spent many an afternoon admiring J.J. from afar.

During student body elections, J.J. ran for student body president (naturally), and he did one of the most unforgettable things I have ever seen. In front of the entire student body (composed mostly of straight, Catholic, Caucasian males)-J.J. went up to the podium and bestowed the following poetry upon us:

“Hey, my name is J.J. [Redacted], some of you may know me from the song about me, “A YAY YAY!”

Watching this perfect man stand up in front of a few hundred people and rap the lyrics to a very relevant, 90’s Ice Cube song (“Pushing Weight”) melted my heart so much, that I still have tiny little J.J. droplets flowing through my cardiovascular system.

Even though J.J. is straight (and married now?), I decided that I need to marry someone just like J.J.-who once rapped in front of his entire student body in a cool, but totally self-deprecating sort of way-that’s an Edward-husband right there. So I dedicate this post to boys named J.J.
