Snark in the name of Friendship

Being snarky in the name of friendship is something I 100% support. Til the day I die, if someone wrongs one of my friends, I will come up with something so snarky to say about that offender they will wish they had been born in a different, kinder millenium. Snark in the name of friendship is also a quality I value in my friends. Without a doubt, all of my friends have mad snark skills. A few years ago, some girl crossed a line you just don’t cross and emailed Molly’s boss something heinously critical about her, and I was furious. You don’t fuck with people’s livelihoods. So when I saw that girl at a party shortly after, I made sure to let it slip out that I thought she was an ‘ugly fucking manatee with no soul’ just loud enough for her to hear, just so she knew that if she ever fucked with anyone I cared about again, I would destroy her no holds barred.

At my b-day party, Molly did the same for me (it’s just something we do for each other), and I’ve been laughing about it all week. If you recall, a few days ago I retold the story about the tattooed dude (former crush) who didn’t want to take a picture with me because he thought I would put it on my blog, like “where are you going to put this?” As I was pretty devastated at the time, Molly and Chuck tried to boost me up by getting me to realize what a complete douchebag the guy was by the sheer cheesiness of his tatts. His arms were literally covered in tribal, so Molly and Chuck kept calling him, “Xena Warrior Princess.” Everytime I’d mention the douche, they’d be like, “Ed, are you really gonna let ‘Xena, Warrior Princess’ ruin your b-day!?” They’d say it all loud and distinct enough so he could hear it, and it was pretty funny. It’s actually so funny that I’m still laughing about it now. To make it clear, I do not support randomly making fun of people, but if they wrong you or a friend, well, there’s no rules in love and war. And it totally seems like justice in a way. A snarky joke said as a means of self preservation reeks of justice. Maybe Xena, Warrior Princess should have been nicer. Thought He Knew.
